Date Added: August 26, 2007 11:21:05 PM

Judi Hatton will be coaching at Academy Ballroom Cumberland on Wedneday, August 29th, 2007. She normally only works with couples. If you are interested in getting some coaching let us know. She will also be coming again in September, so please let us know if you would like to get a lesson with her.

Here is some bio information on Judi:

Judi started dancing as a child in her native London, obtaining Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing medals, dancing both as man and lady, before going on to become a successful amateur world competitor in both Latin and Standard styles, annexing many prominent championship titles in both divisions. Upon turning professional, she toured the world as a member of a variety company, performing as a cabaret act in such far away places as South Africa, Monte Carlo and throughout the Mediterranean countries and the Caribbean. It was this performance career path that first brought her to the shores of the USA, to New York City, where she subsequently established permanent residence, ultimately becoming a US citizen.

On meeting and teaming up with her husband as International DanceSport competitors, they went on to carve out a spectacularly successful career, winning almost every major United States professional title over a period of six years, being selected to represent the USA for World Championships, and achieving a place among the top echelon of world competitors and reaching the top twelve couples at the famous British Championship.

During her competitive career, Judi was fortunate to receive training from the most prominent and famous coaches and teachers in the world such as Peter Eggleton, Bill & Bobbie Irvine, Walter Laird, Lorraine, Anthony Hurley, Richard & Janet Gleave, Peter Maxwell, to name but a few. It was during this time that Judi started her theoretical training and has achieved the highest accolade, Honors Fellowships with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, a worldwide body certifying professionals by rigorous examination.

Upon the formation of the professional certifying arm of ‘Dance Vision International Dancers Association’ (DVIDA) Judi was honored to be invited to become a National Examiner for this important body.

Active in the administrative side of dancing, Judi was a member of the US-Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing National Executive for many years, and served as the Society’s President during the latter period of that time.  She had the honor of being elected, and currently serves as, the First Vice President of the National Dance Council of America, one of only two women to hold this position.  Other honors include a listing in the ‘World Who’s Who of Women’, receiving the accolade ‘Woman of the Year’ for services to International DanceSport, and, at the Ohio Star Ball, being presented with the North American Dance Award as “Top Female Coach”.

Judi is a certified ‘World Class Judge’ and is registered as such with the World Dance Council: she is also a Championship certified Chairman of Judges. Judi has represented the USA as a World Championship adjudicator on several occasions in different countries, and continues to act as a judge or chairman of judges at the major Championship events in North America. She has enjoyed the privilege of judging the European Professional Championships which take place in the famous Winter Gardens at Blackpool, England, a singular thrill to step onto this hallowed floor as an invited judge representing the USA.

Other international judging and coaching invitations regularly take Judi to Holland, Germany, Bangkok Thailand, Moscow, and Taipei, Taiwan, and Copenhagen Denmark, as well as serving annually as Chairman of Judges for the World Dance Council “World Series International” event, the “Irish Open Championships” in Tralee, Ireland. Other interesting projects include being featured as one of two guest hosts and on-camera expert who, together with world renowned Hollywood dancer and movie star, Cyd Charisse, hosted for several years the annual ten hour television series ‘DanceSport’ which has been shown across the USA and continues to show in such diverse areas as China, Japan, Eastern & Western Europe, and the United Kingdom.

Judi’s main focus is training and coaching dancers at all levels, beginner though advanced, in both International and American Styles, and she numbers most of the USA’s top dancers, amateur and professional, among her pupils including many current professional and amateur champions. Constantly training to maintain her high standards, she attends the annual World Ballroom Congress and the British Festival in Blackpool England, and continues to study and take coaching.

Judi is qualified by examination in:

·             International Latin - Fellowship

·             American Ballroom - Fellowship

·             American Rhythm - Fellowship

·             Theater Arts - Fellowship
